Billy Parker is
arguably the most prominent air personality in the
state of Oklahoma. Parker began his radio career in
1959 at KFMJ Tulsa OK and then worked at KFDI Wichita
KS and KPLR Oklahoma City OK. He then left radio to
become front man for Ernest Tubb’s Texas Troubadours.
After tiring of the road he retuned to radio in 1971
at KVOO Tulsa OK, and continued to record. In 1974
he was named Disc Jockey of the Year by the CMA. Parker
was named Disc Jockey of the Year by the Academy of
Country Music in 1975, 1977, 1978 and 1984. Billy Parker
was inducted into the Country Music D J Hall of Fame
in 1991. He was inducted into the Western Swing Hall
of Fame in 1993 and awarded the Oklahoma Association
of Broadcasters’ Lifetime Achievement Award in
1995.
