Big Jon Trimble hosted a trucking radio show was heard
for twenty-five years on three different 50,000 watt
clear channel radio stations. He first hosted
a teenage radio show at WSTP, Paintsville, Kentucky from1955 to 1957. He then
originated a show from the original Shoney’s Drive-In on WTIP Charleston,
West Virginia in1957 and1958, before joining WDOC Prestonburg, Kentucky from1958
to1960. His radio career was interrupted by service in the US Army, where he
emceed shows and performed stand up comedy from 1960 to1963. He returned to radio
with stints playing middle of the road and Country music in Little Rock Arkansas
at KYMO in 1963 and 1964 and KGMR in 1964 and 1965. He joined fulltime Country
station KBBA Benton, Arkansas as Program Director and afternoon air personality
from 1965 to1967, and then joined WVHI Evansville, Indiana in a similar position
in 1967 and1968. In 1968 became Music Director and afternoon air personality
at KMO Seattle/Tacoma, Washington where he started an overnight truckers show
in 1972. He then joined KWKH Shreveport, Louisiana hosting Kelly’s Truck
Stop on I-20 from 1974 to 1977. He then hosted a similar show from Jarrell’s
Truck Stop on I-95 on WRVA Richmond, Virginia from 1977-1995, as well as Main
Street America National Broadcast a live Country music show carried by several
stations. Most recently he was Program Director and afternoon air personality
at WXGI Richmond, Virginia where he has also operated the Hometown USA Music
Hall Broadcast which has been heard on several stations since 1998.
